From citrus colony to new subdivisions
English settlers arrived in 1883, drawn by newspaper ads for citrus groves, and the St. Cloud and Sugar Belt Railway reached the area in 1888. Freezes in the 1890s and a 1908 drought drove many away, and in 1910 E. Nelson Fell left to found Fellsmere, taking most of the remaining residents. Today housing developments are spreading into Narcoossee from both Orlando and St. Cloud.
